2010 Call to Artists

We are requesting art submissions for EASEL’s 2010-2011 inaugural tour. This exhibit will travel throughout libraries in Southeastern Minnesota, and be displayed to the public for one year. We are looking for pieces that correspond with your artistic interpretation of books, a letter or letters, reading, authors, or the library.


Artwork needs to be submitted to the SELCO office in Rochester (2600 19th Street NW, Rochester, MN 55901) from 9 am to 5 pm Monday, July 19 – Friday, July 23, 2010 and Monday, July 26 – Saturday, July 31, 2010.

Judging will take place August 3rd – 4th, 2010. You will be notified within two weeks of the Jury’s decision. If your artwork is not selected, you can pick up your piece at SELCO between Monday, August 9th and Friday, August 20th including Saturday, August 14th, 2010.

Selected artwork will travel through libraries in Southeastern Minnesota from October 2010 to September 2011. SELCO will handle all aspects of the exhibit including storing and shipping to and from the libraries. SELCO will also insure all artwork while exhibited, in storage, and during transit.


To submit artwork, you must be 18 years of age and live in one of the eleven counties in the SELCO region: Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, and Winona.  There is no fee to enter, however artists are limited to one piece of artwork.


Artwork submitted for the traveling exhibit may be offered for sale and sold during the exhibit. If sold, the piece will be held for the length of the show and then SELCO will finalize arrangements for payment between the buyer and the artist. Artists will receive the full price of the artwork and prices should reflect a fair market value. Artists may designate a piece, NFS, not for sale.


All 3D artwork may only be a maximum of 12 x 12 x 12 inches, and at least one of those dimensions must be 12 inches.  All 2D artwork must be 12 x 12 inches frame included and gallery ready. Artwork not meeting these requirements will unfortunately be rejected.

The General Info Card provided in the printed call must be completed and attached to your artwork at the time of submission.  Extra General Information Cards are available at the SELCO front desk.  If you need one sent to you, please send an email to Mollie Pherson at mpherson@selco.info or call 1-800-992-5061.  If selected, you will be asked to provide additional information in electronic form, including an artist’s statement, a photo, and some biographical information for inclusion in the EASEL Exhibit Catalog. SEMVA will manage the jurying and installation of the traveling exhibit on location at the libraries, as well as provide “gallery talks” for library programs.
