2011 Call to Artists

We are requesting art submissions for easel’s 2012–2013 tour.  This exhibit will travel to libraries throughout southeastern Minnesota.

TIMELINE

Artwork needs to be submitted to the SELCO office (2600 19th Street NW, Rochester, MN 55901) from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm December 5 – 9, 2011.

If you are unable to submit your art during this time, a pre-arranged appointment can be scheduled for Saturday, December 10, 2011.

Judging will take place December 12, 2011. You will be notifed within one week of jury selection. If your artwork is not selected, you can pick up your piece at SELCO between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm December 14 – December 16 or December 19 – December 20, 2011.

Selected art pieces will travel to libraries in SE Minnesota from January 2012 through June 2013.  SELCO will handle all aspects of the exhibit including storing and shipping to and from the libraries. SELCO will also insure all artwork while exhibited, in storage, and during transit.

SALE of ARTWORK

Artwork submitted for the traveling exhibit may be offered for sale and sold during the exhibit.  SELCO will make arrangements for payment between the buyer and the artist. Each piece will be held for the length of the exhibit. Artists will receive the full price of the artwork and prices should reflect a fair market value. Artists may designate a piece NFS; not for sale.

ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS

Artwork must depict the artist’s interpretation of books, letters, reading, authors, or the library.

  • Artists are limited to one piece of artwork.
  • 2D artwork must be 12×12 inches, including frame.
  • 2D artwork must be ready to hang using wire only; no hooks, saw-tooth brackets or clips.
  • 3D artwork may only be a maximum of 12x12x12 inches, and one of those dimensions must be 12 inches.
  • Art must be suitable for viewing by all ages in a library environment.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • All artists must be 18 years of age or older.
  • The General Information Card (provided) must be completed and attached to your artwork at the time of submission.
  • Artists must include a typed Artist Statement at time of submission not to exceed 200 words. This statement must include one to two sentences describing the artist’s interpretation of the theme.
  • Artist must live in one of the eleven counties in the SELCO region: Dodge, Fillmore,Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Rice, Olmsted, Steele, Wabasha, or Winona.

If selected, you will be required to submit your Artist Statement, biographical information, and a high quality photograph in electronic form for publication in the easel exhibit catalog.
