Two community leaders, the Owatonna Public Library and the Owatonna Art Center (OAC) are working in partnership to sponsor the next leg in the traveling art exhibit, easel – Experience Art at Southeastern Libraries. From July 20 to August, 31, easel will be on display at the Owatonna Art Center. SELCO staff member, Sara Berquam, and SEMVA Board Member, Betty Devine, installed easel at the OAC on July 20. This collection of works depicts the artistic interpretation of a literary theme and features artists from the 11-souteastern counties. The Owatonna Arts Center (OAC) is nestled on the West Hills campus in an 1887 Romanesque-style building. The OAC displays works by local and regional artists, as well as monthly rotating exhibits of regional artists and traveling shows. A variety of cultural events are also held at the OAC ranging from art classes to band concerts and orchestra performances. While easel is on display in one gallery, the OAC is also featuring watercolor artist, Mick Benson. Among Benson’s favorite things to paint are landscapes, floral, raptors, and buildings that reflect historical character. Benson’s display is entitled “The Equine Spirit” which captures one of the artist’s favorite subjects, abandoned farm steeds.
easel is presented in cooperation with SEMVA – Southeastern Minnesota Visual Artists.
easel is funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage fund through a Library Legacy grant to SELCO from the Minnesota Legislature for Library Legacy programs and services.
